This years Playday event, held as always, in the grounds of Baildon Recreational Centre, is Bradford`s recognised annual celebration for children`s play which welcomes hundreds of children and young people from across Bradford.
The event is organised in partnership thus providing a perfect arena in which to raise the profile of play as a community and district wide celebration. The Council`s Sport and Leisure Service; Community Play Activities Development Unit, host the event, provide financial support, staff and play resources for the day.
The Play Network (Bradford) co-ordinates the event, provides volunteers and their `messy play area`, Bradford Early Years and Childcare Service, commission services and provide adventurous, loose parts play. These and other agencies work collaboratively to keep `play` alive across Bradford. This years event `Give us a Go` gave organisers the opportunity to stretch the play boundaries and offer more risk and challenging play opportunities. Thanks to the Big Lottery Fund Children's Play Programme, Bradford`s mobile climbing wall (ss pictures) and skate park (see pictures) took centre stage, messy gloop gorge, mud play, go-kart building and obstacle course ensured variety, further opportunities to `get close` to reptiles, have a go at archery and the now infamous water slide enabled this event to take play one step further.
The event welcomes nearly 1000 participants on the day nestled firmly in the middle of further 5 smaller Playday events across the city as Playday becomes Play Week in Bradford.
